Problem to Solve

Study a Charles Bargue work “Horse Head from the West Pediment of the Parthenon” and recreate a 1:1 replica.

Creative SOLUTION

My approach to this study was the same as the Bargue 2 study. I began this project by boxing in the shape and building off of it. Once an accurate outline was created, I began filling in the major components of the interior. Once a rough interior was created I then began to box in the shadow. At this point the outline and shadow borders are constantly adjusted until a solid peace is created that relies manly on minute pencil strokes to tell the viewer the shape of the subject.

After completing this project, I imported it in Adobe Photoshop and adjusted the levels to exaggerate the white values in order to remove them. Using masks and layers I digitally altered the work to give it a late 19th early 20th century feeling to it. I appreciate vintage design of that time period and I am looking forward to what kind of results this hybrid mixture will produce.
